In Wuyuan county in Jiangxi province, a Londoner, known only as Edward, and his bride, surnamed Liao, held a grand traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, China News Service reported.

The newlyweds wore ornately embroidered red robes – seen as auspicious in China – during the ceremony that was held in a historic Qing-era residence last month.
Edward’s family flew over from Britain to attend the elaborate event, which saw the bride being carried in on a sedan and loud ceremonial music being played on the streets as part of a procession, the report said.

Over in the city of Yuncheng in Shanxi province, it was a similarly high-profile, extravagant affair for Polish groom Matthew and his Chinese bride Zhang Xiaomei late last month, China Daily reported.
The couple had met while teaching at the Yuncheng University campus, according to the report.
As a big admirer of Chinese culture, Matthew decided to hold a traditional wedding complete with the elaborate red bridal costumes, sedan for the bride, and even a horse for the groom.

But Matthew could not resist adding a Western touch to his bridal costume as homage to his background, accessorising his gold-and-red outfit with a black fedora and sunglasses.

Both mixed-marriage weddings generated attention online as photos of the newlyweds were shared across Chinese social media platforms.

Although some were critical of the cross-cultural unions, others wished the couples well.
“Good wishes for the teacher! Respect!” said one Weibo user, commenting on the Polish teacher’s wedding.
“Traditional Chinese weddings look more fun than the Chinese weddings I got invited to in Shanghai,” lamented one English-language commenter.
