Use WeChat Pay to Take MTR.


According to Tencent, they will focus on how to set up the system on buying metro tickets via WeChat Pay, all WeChat users will benefit from it.


WeChat users who registered with a Mainland mobile phone number can buy MTR tickets via WeChat, it will automatically exchange CNY into HKD. Well, you no longer need to worry about forgetting to take the Octopus Card to Hong Kong. And the locals can directly use WeChat Pay HK to buy tickets.


According to SCMP, starting next month, commuters and tourists can purchase tickets with their mobile phones at two stations selected for the trial scheme.

Use WeChat Pay HK to Take Taxi.


In early November, WeChat Pay HK unveiled a series of payment solutions for daily transactions, announcing that its service can now be used to pay for taxi fare and settle bills in the city.


The new features allow people to transfer money by displaying and scanning each other’s payment codes. 


More than 1,000 taxis are expected to accept WeChat Pay HK as a payment option by the end of this year, said Norman Tam, general manager of Tencent’s International Business Group.

Use WeChat Pay HK for Shopping. 


Consumers can settle bills by simply scanning the in-app QR code from merchants, such as newspaper stands, local restaurants, supermarkets and chain stores.


Another function, called Quick Pay, is designed for merchants who have already installed point of sale (POS) systems to handle transactions. They can complete a transaction quickly by scanning a customer’s payment code.

WeChat Pay HK supports 13 currencies exchanges.


At present, WeChat Pay HK service is only available for WeChat users registered with Hong Kong mobile phone numbers.


If you registered WeChat with a non-HK mobile number but have HK mobile number or credit card, you can activate WeChat Pay HK from “Wallet – Help Center’.
