Apply for a passport and visa

After the baby is born in China, their parents need to apply a passport and visa for them.

Notarization

First of all, go to the local notary public office to do the notarization.

Passport

Secondly, they need to go to their mother country’s consulate in China to applyfor the passport and the time depends on the local consulate.

Nationality Approval

Thirdly, they can go to the local Immigration Administration to do the nationality approval to confirm his or her foreign nationality identity.

Visa

Then, they can finally apply for a visa (family residence visa) on the local Immigration Administration, which usually takes 7 days. According to the rules of government, all the procedures will be finished within 60 days.

Get registration when the procedures can’t be finished on time

If the local consulate replies that the above procedures cannot be finished within 60 days, then the parents need to go to the Immigration Administration to get registration for the baby. After that, they will be given another 120 days to finish the above procedures.

In addition, if the baby is half-breed, which means one of his/her parents is a Chinese citizen, the baby has the right to apply for Chinese citizenship.
