People have the weirdest reasons for not taking a shower on a daily basis. I, for one, may attribute this habit to the fact that I have no time to juggle sleep with taking a shower and then getting to work on time (maybe you can relate to this.) If you consider the fact that bathing emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which eventually erodes the earth’s surface or that it can take up to 80 liters of water to take a 10-minute shower, can sometimes lead people to bathe less. The point here is not to shame those that do not bathe as frequently but rather to educate and enlighten you as to why it is very important to treat yourself like royalty in the bathroom everyone once in a while. Here is a list of reasons why you just go ahead with that occasional Jacuzzi splurge.

Baths play a huge part in human health and wellbeing. There are bathing traditions on nearly every continent and many of these traditions can be traced back to Roman times where huge bathing complexes with subfloor heating were commonplace. Hot baths are prescribed for the relaxation of the body and mind. However, there is more to baths that just a little time to yourself to have deep thoughts; their medicinal qualities are worth noting.

Laying horizontal in water, a bathtub in this context, helps to improve your mood. No one is saying taking a quick shower is bad because you are in a vertical position, but taking a bath is definitely one of the quickest ways to wash that pesky stress away. It may surprise you to know that this was scientifically proven in 2002 by scientists from the University of Wolverhampton. Their study found that participants has significantly improved moods and optimism after a bath at the end of the day, which was attributed to comfort, warmth, isolation and body positioning. Some scholars have even argued that this position gives us a sense of security. I guess when that time hits and you feel extremely down and lonely, you should give that bathtub a visit.

Baths help to relieve some skin conditions; in fact, with the aid of bleach in bath water, certain inflammatory skin diseases like eczema can even be cured. Medicated or oiled baths are a technique to eliminate dead cells from the skin, moisturize the skin as well as remove potential causes of infection. However, baths are not recommended for all skin diseases. With this in mind, it is wise to be careful if you are unsure whether your skin disease can be treated at home. Nonetheless, athletes are advised to take cold baths since this helps to lower the levels of lactic acid in the bloodstream. For the rest of us who are not athletes hot baths before bed produce better sleep. What better way to feel warm on a cold night than through a long, hot bath. The inhalation of steam is also an excellent remedy for cold-induced miseries like the flu. Studies have shown that a warm bath assists your immune system in working optimally.

Another upside to taking baths is how they can drastically reduce body odor and balance the skin’s pH. Vinegar baths, for instance, can help to kill bacteria that thrive under the armpits and even around the genitals. These work as a sure way to detoxify the skin by eliminating skin odor and irritations.

 Vinegar baths are popular because vinegar is a versatile natural remedy that is easily accessible at home. It is also a natural source of B vitamins and Vitamin C, making it a nourishing element to the skin.

It is actually very easy to prepare a vinegar bath. Using Apple Cider Vinegar, fill the bathtub with warm water and drop one to two cups of the vinegar right into the water.
