The situation, sometimes, can be very demanding, tiresome, and even discouraging especially when there is no family around or nanny to assist you. Having time for a peaceful bathroom break or a good shower can be a luxurious treat, and finding time to chat, work, study or read can be real tough. To satisfy the strong demands for space, Double Decker provides a co-working space for full time parents with babysitting facilities right upstairs.
In the Double Decker co-working Space, full-time parents with small kids have a space to finish their work, study or even simply have a coffee break. While at the same time, they can be assured that their babies are playing safely upstairs.
Besides, Double Decker also provides some courses for parents and their babies, including yoga for adults and babies, kids English, Spanish and Mandarin clubs, kids music and kids Art Classes. As for adults, there are Mandarin Class, Craft Club, Art Doodling Class, Woodcut Print Class, T-shirt Making and Tea Ceremony as well as First-aid Workshops to name a few.
Double Decker Coworking Space was founded by Michelle Yu, with her foreign husband, mother and their 4-year-old boy. She completely understands the hardships of being a full-time mother. Personal space is limited while working from home is a real challenge. Realizing the demand for the space and similar needs from other parents, Michelle, at the end of 2015, came up with the idea of building the co-working space for those in need.
At the beginning of the business, few people understood what the co-working space would be like. Michele had to keep explaining her ideas.
“The reason why we built the Double Decker Co-working Space is that we want to encourage full-time parents to use this space to “recharge” themselves with energy and knowledge and to help bring more meaning to their parenting time, not just in terms of taking good care of babies, but also of your personal growing.”
Since the number of people experiencing the service is increasing, Double Decker has become more popular among full-time parents.
“Being a full-time mother is very hard for me,” One of the customers in Double Decker said, “I have to donate my full time to take care of my babies so it is very hard for me to get my own space. I love my kids but I want my world to not be all about my babies. Now, things are better. I have a platform for myself to get my own time to work, study, exchange ideas or skills, or simply relax, while my babies are having fun and staying safe nearby while playing and learning.”
In Double Decker, a full-time parent is not just a full-time parent. Their world is more than just their babies. In their life, there are other hobbies to do, goals to chase and professions to pursue.
Michelle, founder of Double Decker Co-working Space gives her best wishes to other full-time parents, “We’d love to see that you pick up some knowledge or a new hobby here, or find a new profession or career path to develop.”
