Liu Xiaodong, an anchor for Dalian Weather TV, was reporting on a thunderstorm in Dalian, Liaoning Province when lightning struck close by, reported Chinese media The Paper.

Speaking to Chinese media, Mr Liu said that they had just started recording his piece to camera when they both felt a tingling sensation in their arms before seeing sparks discharge from their hands and umbrellas.

“It was lucky that we were not hit by the thunderbolt but rather an indirect lightning strike, otherwise the consequence is unthinkable,” he added.

According to US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the probability of a person being struck by lightning in their lifetime is 1 out of 12,000.
