Liu Xiangwu and his wife, both in their 80s, built the two tombs at their home on a mountain in Zhaotong in Yunnan province – one in the living room and the other in a bedroom, Yunnan.cn reported.

Pictures show the grave in the living room with writing on it and two coffins above.

The elderly couple eat on a small wooden table in front of the tomb, the report said.

The couple has no children and spent 970 yuan (US$140) building the tombs 30 years ago and later bought two coffins for their future use.

Liu was quoted as saying that they built the tombs indoors because no one would inherit their home, so it could protect their graves from the wind and rain in the coming years.

Liu said he and his wife have an agreement that if one of them dies and is buried in a tomb, the other should continue to live in the house.

One person who had seen the tombs was quoted as saying it was fine to look at the graves from outside, but it was scary to enter the building.
