All the other hotels are built above sea level.
But in this hotel, sixteen stories were built 88 meters below sea level.
Isn’t that weird?
Let’s first take a look at the hotel and see what’s happening inside:

Two of them are underwater.
The hotel has 336 guest rooms.
It is said that underwater hotel rooms are extremely expensive, but they’re all booked up until 2020!
What kind of experience would it be?
The lobby of the hotel is on the ground floor,
and a water curtain fountain comes towards us.
We need to take the fully transparent elevator to the bottom of the pit to see what the guest room looks like.
The aquarium-like design allows guests to experience the novelty of the underwater world.
In addition to the wonderful experience of living 88 meters underground, there are also recreational facilities.
Not only can you go canoeing and rock climbing, but you can also sign up for a helicopter tour of the surrounding area!
What’s more, it can fly over to Xiaokunshan, with more routes set to open in the future.
But how was it built?
It all started 12 years ago…
There was only one abandoned quarry.
It was a big hole dug by Japan during the second world war when it invaded China.
In 2006, the World Trade Company decided to fix the hole.
Let the “scars” of the past become “diamonds”.
To solve the design problem, British designer Martin and his team conceptualized the design of “galleon hotel”.
After a field trip, he worked out the prototype of the sinkhole hotel.
The hotel is designed to have 18 floors,
with hanging gardens on the top two floors.
It is not easy to design the drawing,
but the initial result was a construction project too complicated to build.
However, difficulties cannot stop determined Chinese workers from getting things done.
Is it inconvenient for a few hundred workers to get up and down?
They learn from the ancients to build a “plank road” first.
The walls are not vertical and cannot transport materials.
The “tower crane” on the construction site was of very good support and help.
How about a similar design?
It cost RMB 2 billion and took 12 years to complete the project.
5,000 construction workers worked day and night to create 41 patents.
Now, the hotel is being hosted by the national geographic channel as “the world’s top ten architectural wonders”.
Last year when the hotel was closed,
they also spoke with design director Martin.
“The way Chinese engineers solve problems is amazing.
They overcame many of the industry’s obstacles,” he said.
Now, the long-awaited deep pit hotel has finally opened.
