The incident happened in the city of Xi’an, China.  Apparently, Ge’s car was blocked by the female cleaner’s rubbish truck.  In a fit of rage, Ge and his companion alighted the vehicle and assaulted the cleaner until she bled profusely.

According to the netizen, Ge’s female companion was shoving the worker while screaming at her: “How much money do I make?

“How much money do you make?

“Do you know you’re now keeping me from making money?”  Ge himself then stepped forth and started beating up the cleaner.

The netizen decided to lodge a police report but was accosted by a man at the station who claimed to be an assistant of Ge.

Xi’an police released a statement on Sina Weibo saying the professor, surnamed Ge, would be detained for 10 days and face a fine of 500 yuan ($75) for beating up the worker, surnamed Liu. The worker sustained minor injuries, the statement said.

Since the incident was brought to light, Ge has written a letter of apology which was posted on Shaanxi University’s official Weibo account.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the university said Ge had been suspended and a work team had been appointed to assist the police with their investigation. The university said it would handle the case “seriously” and in line with the investigation results.
