Google has chosen the city of Shenzhen for its third office in China. The city is dubbed the ‘Asian Silicon Valley’, as it is also home to the likes of technology giants Tencent and Huawei.
Google has chosen the city of Shenzhen for its third office in China. The city is dubbed the ‘Asian Silicon Valley’, as it is also home to the likes of technology giants Tencent and Huawei.
The American tech company already has offices in Beijing and Shanghai where it has around 600 employees in total in both offices, and will use a serviced office in Shenzhen, instead of its traditional campus-style offices, according to TechCrunch.

The tech website also reported an internal memo addressed to Google employees, which stated that the company decided to open its office in Shenzhen, because it noticed that many of its staff travelled there for work and based on feedback, it decided to build a third base in the city.
While its search engine is still blocked in China, Google is increasing its business in the country, especially since it has invested $1.1bn into a large part of HTC’s smartphone business.

The deal with the Taiwanese company allowed Google to ramp up its own in-house Made by Google products, an ever-growing family of gadgets which now includes Pixel smartphones, Google Home voice assistant, Google Wifi, the Daydream View VR headset and Chromecast Ultra streaming dongle.
